(I got referred to this work by someone else...I didn't find it on my own.)

I thought it was a photograph at first until I read otherwise in your description, and then looked closer at the image and saw the fine brush strokes.

This...is...AMAZING. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="23" height="15" alt=":wow:" title="Wow! - :wow:"/> The level of detail on this is astounding. You say you spent about 50 hours on this? I believe it. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="17" alt=":O_o:" title="O_o - :O_o:"/> I've said to some artists before with high-quality work that if you squint your eyes, the picture resembles a photograph. Your work is so good that you don't even have to squint to make it appear as such. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/c…" width="20" height="20" alt="" title="Clap -"/>

Nothing is out of place in this image. The color, brushstroke size and style, and lighting effects are everything I'd expect from a photograph of a fox like this. Even the reflection in the fox's eyes is photo-realistic. Did you by chance draw this from a photograph? Or was it all done from memory or a live subject?

Have you done similar paintings to this for other animals, or is this the only one?
